Student Staff

“I really enjoyed the variety of activities we did with the kids, from regular programming, recreation activities, field trips, and more. It always felt refreshing and fun.

This experience will have a big impact on my personal and career goals, as I hope to work in smaller and remote communities around BC. Building connections at Musqueam has been really relevant in that regard.”

– Gabby, Reading Club Coordinator (2025W)

“I enjoyed that this job was fun but still kept you on your feet.

I strengthened my skills to work independently, including working on my own ideas and bringing them to fruition. The program helped me to become better at working without constant guidance. I learned that adaptability is key in the world of work. Knowing how to adapt to changes, people, and events is important when it comes to success.

I recommend this Work Learn job because the hours are flexible. You can keep up with your classes while working a job that doesn’t overwhelm you but instead excites you.”

– Olivia, Math & Science Club Coordinator (2025W)

“During my Work Learn experience, I connected with a lot of youth at the community centre and focused on inspiring them to pursue further education. I developed a lot of working relationships with the Musqueam Nation and I plan to continue to support their youth in any way I can.

When I first came to school [UBC], I didn’t have many friends, but the youth helped me to get out of my shell and push myself beyond my comfort zone. This led me to taking on a leadership role and engaging with others more.

Overall, this job gave me the courage to take the initiative. It showed me that it only takes one person to change another’s life in a positive way. Being part of the BTS Program gives you the chance to make positive change.”

– Deejay, Musqueam Youth Program Coordinator (2025W)
